We are delighted to announce that Prof David Cebon, Professor of Mechanical Engineering in the University of Cambridge's Engineering Department and Director for the Centre for Sustainable Road Freight (CSRF), will join the DRF Lunchtime Clinic on Friday, 22 November to deliver a talk on Decarbonising Road Freight.
Long-haul road freight is said to be one of the ‘difficult to decarbonise’ sectors of the economy. Heavy vehicles require large amounts of power for long periods of time, making battery electric technologies challenging. There are two main alternatives to battery-electric vehicles: fuel-cell electric vehicles powered by hydrogen and ‘dynamic charging’ technology: like electric trains, trams or trolley buses. This talk will consider the basic numbers associated with these issues and will show that one option is technically much better than the others. This has big implications for road infrastructure.
