The DRF Lunchtime Clinic welcomes Professor Joon Teo, Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Yonsei University. His research interests include 3D mapping, spatial data science, and remote sensing. Prof Heo will be speaking on Data flow bottlenecks in smart construction and their solutions.
Talk Abstract
Digital transformation in construction (a.k.a. smart construction) revolves around a data flow process that encompasses acquiring, storing, sharing, managing, analyzing, visualizing, and autonomously making decisions using data generated on construction sites. However, the unique characteristics of this data—such as its fully 3D hierarchical structure, massive size, high computational demands, and security concerns—pose significant challenges. These include real-time data sharing for immediate communication and collaboration, as well as conducting intensive data analyses. This presentation highlights research efforts aimed at overcoming these bottlenecks in construction site data management and showcases real-world solutions derived from these research outcomes that effectively tackle these challenges.
