Please join distinguished guest speaker, Professor Wei Pan, Head of Department of Civil Engineering, at the University of Hong Kong. Prof Pan will be speaking on Strategic Development of Civil Engineering in Hong Kong and Transformative Modular Integrated Construction.  

The talk will outline HKU Civil’s cutting-edge research and introduces its strategic development plan and talents programme delving into the specific research topic of modular integrated construction (MiC). MiC builds on the widely promoted modular construction approach emphasizing integrated solutions to address critical challenges facing high-rise high-density cities. MiC transforms the way we build with well demonstrated benefits in many performance aspects. The talk will explain the foundation of MiC and elaborates how it transforms the way we build. Systematic R&D is shared on novel structures and connections, advanced materials, AI-IoT integrated module transport and assembly, carbon emissions and total factor sustainability of MiC. Concluding with final reflections on Hong Kong experience within the international domain, exploring cross-border collaboration.
