
In a special edition of the DRF Lunchtime Clinic to be held on Monday, 23rd June, we are delighted to welcome Dr Wininie Tang, Adjunct Professor at the University of Hong Kong, to talk on Enhancing Urban Sustainability: The Impact of GIS and Low Altitude Economy.
Abstract
As a GIS expert and entrepreneur in Hong Kong for nearly three decades, Dr Winnie Tang will share insights on integrating Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the Low Altitude Economy to enhance sustainability in Hong Kong. The focus will be on using drones for construction inspections and protecting green spaces, exploring strategies to balance conservation and development. Key technologies, including GIS tools like ArcGIS, LiDAR, and Site Scan, will be discussed for their roles in data analysis and visualisation. By examining global case studies, she will illustrate how these technologies can promote sustainable urban planning and resource management, providing attendees with practical applications of GIS and drone technology in addressing contemporary challenges in civil engineering.

Dr Winnie Tang, MH, JP is an Adjunct Professor, School of Computing and Data Science; Department of Geography, Faculty of Social Sciences, The University of Hong Kong. She is a local born entrepreneur from Hong Kong. In the 1990s, Dr. Tang founded Esri China (Hong Kong) Limited to develop and promote Geographic Information System (GIS) software and solutions. She is also the Founder and Honorary President of Smart City Consortium, and Founding Vice President of The Greater Bay Area Low-Altitude Economy Alliance. Over the years, she has been actively advocating the use of technology and sharing her views regarding the ICT industry, eHealth, environmental conservation, entrepreneurship and smart city through her services in government and non-government organizations in Hong Kong.
