The Roads Research Alliance (RRA), a unique collaboration between National Highways, the University of Cambridge and industry partners, has announced its annual report featuring MSCA FUTUREROADS Fellows work aimed at creating safer, greener and smarter road infrastructure. The latest developments include AI-powered pavement assessment, digital twin technologies, climate resilience tools and lower-carbon construction solutions.
Professor Ioannis Brilakis, University of Cambridge, highlighted the importance of the partnership in accelerating innovation across the transport sector:
“The Roads Research Alliance (RRA) is a unique opportunity to establish a collaborative research and development mechanism to help advance innovations across the transport sector towards market readiness. The RRA has undertaken significant work to setup the foundations for this with support from the University of Cambridge led Future Roads Fellowships Programme. The latest developments continue to demonstrate the value innovation and collaboration have on the future of road infrastructure.”
The announcement recognises the contribution of the University of Cambridge-led Future Roads Fellowships Programme in establishing the foundations of the Alliance and fostering close collaboration between researchers, infrastructure owners and industry partners. Together, they are helping translate cutting-edge research into practical solutions that can improve the performance, resilience and sustainability of the UK's road network.
